The Prince and His Maiden

by Princess Victory   May 9, 2011

Secrets hidden,
Love forbidden,
Such a tragic tale to tell,
Since all seemed too well.
A maiden oh so precious,
And a prince who was none too pretentious,
Fell in love at the beautiful square,
For hopes that one day she'd bear,
A child to call their own.
But when the royal family was shown,
The elegant maiden to be wed,
Tears of complete disappointment were shed.
The King was none too happy,
That the maiden seemed way too sappy.
She laughed and played and carried on,
Like a small baby fawn.
Unaware of her lover's dreaded secret,
For they knew she was unable to keep it.
His lion ears; his lion tail,
Much too fragile for a secret so frail.
If she knew the secret, she'd run, he thought.
For that is what he was always taught.
She may have seemed a little silly,
But in her mind she was kind and witty.
Still the King decided to send her away,
Though she did have something small to say.
"I know the secret," she squeaked to the King.
"What!" He screamed as she messed with her ring.
"I know the secret," she squeaked once again.
"Guards! Close all the doors and let no one else in!"
"But why?" She wailed as the guards did their job.
"How dare ye ask me!" And her heart began to throb.
What's he going to do? Might I die tonight?
"Rest assured little one, for here is your knight!"
She turned around, Oh her prince had come!
"How dare ye harm her! Now, dear maiden, run!"
She ran for dear life as her prince had said,
But deep inside she was filled with dread.
He dueled with his father from dawn until dusk.
And to win the fair battle, kill him he must.
"My dear son, you are a cat!
And you were born only for that.
You were never meant to love!
You were never meant to stand above!
Why you were bore to us we know naught.
But letting you lead? Certainly not!"
"Father, let us end this right now,
I do not desire your precious crown!
I did not wish to be an heir,
Of this wonderful land so fair.
You want me dead? Then so be it.
I do not think that I am fit,
To rule I must be just like you.
All I say is that I am through.
Pick one of my brothers to be ruler, you see?
They all fit it to a T.
I love my Krystal so sweet,
And I believe you must be beat.
I will not murder you, that is too harsh, of course.
Instead I shall beat you by sheer will of force.
If I pin you in time,
Then the entire kingdom will not be mine.
Rather you keep it and I get to live.
My dear Krystal and I will have a gift to give.
To all the townspeople of this land,
Gold and silver from your hand.
An ox for each farmer to plow the field
And armor for warriors, even a shield!"
"I agree to your conditions, for I shall have the win!
But I must also have conditions then!
And if I win, then you are to die,
And deep in the ground your body shall lie.
This curse has been a nuisance and lest ye fall,
I will rid of it once and for all!"
"Is that why you want your eldest dead?
Is that why you do not want me wed?
Well, I have some excellent news!
'Tis something for you to muse,
Krystal has cat ears, just as I do!
They are, in fact, a cheetah's too!"
The King's mouth was agape,
This was the chance he was ready to take!
He stunned his enemy with shock,
As the clock was saying, tick tock, tick tock.
He pinned his father in that instant,
And won the duel with his accomplishment.
He and Krystal had their happily ever after,
With a babe full of love and laughter.
His promises were kept,
And his conditions were met.
Plus, his brother took the throne when their dear father had left!
And the town worried no more of theft,
For gold and silver galore!
It was unlike anything ever before!
This is the end of the tragic story,
Still it ended on a good note with the prince having love, happiness, and promising glory.
