A River

by Thomas Pender   May 30, 2011

I heard a story once
of something called a River
Where water flowed on and on
This of course is a legend
and untrue

The sun shines ever on
This sand gleams in a warm glow
the dunes ride the horizon
forever
with Rivers never seen

It is said they flowed
over ground green with verdure
why do they lie
All know that water comes
from deep holes dug in sand

They tell of wide waters
sparkling clear in sunshine
I sometimes dream I see
these waters flowing
Why can't dreams be true
Sometimes I walk onward
White things I find here and there
I am told these once lived
Is it possible
that there were waters once
