Blood on Yellow Roses

by Thomas Pender   Oct 1, 2011

I awoke this day
following restless slumbers
through my dark night
of imprisoned love
A new dawn beckons
and this sinner who repents
is now behaving well
beneath a demolished sky
My overshadowed brow
pierced by the staggering embrace
of a perfumed breeze
whispering trackless words
to my humble need
The Cathedral of my mind
filled with dusty twilight shadows
clenched the disconnecting resolution
of my hard held beliefs

I see the woman who calls me
from the iron gates
Beyond the field of poppies
and the old legacies of war
her loneliness staggers
towards her new day
I see emotions circulate
beneath her gracefullness
Emotions flowing
and spite for life raging
in a heart now littered
with the cold dark scars
of futility's knife
She stands beyond these walls
a rage flashes
in eyes of bitter tears
for the millions
who laid their future down
in the name of home and love

And where now stand I
staring at this cracked dawn
in a final fatal rapture
These majestic celestial turnings
that create our morning glories
as the golden life giver blooms
and reveals the blood on yellow roses
and my heart's fading valour
There where concealed in willows
beside the water's edge
my heart and love lie buried
And I silently remain.....
this lost soul staring
toward some future's dawn
Will we be just a single footnote
when history fades away
and searchers survey statistics
and say we never tried
Ah....perhaps we were forever lost
in the search for wondrous dreams
that could never be fulfilled
