Morning

by Thomas Pender   May 30, 2011

I stand with you now
on the headland
The companionship of age
binds our solitude
and lasting love
In the gloom before day
we hold our comfort
and stand together

The sea line flickers
dancing in lights
from a passing ship
A waxing Moon hangs
towards horizon's edge
and a cascade of clouds
caught in a wind from the North
sweeps the stars

A glow birthing
and shadows fade
The returning sun
glimpsed in a shadowed flame
rising in your eyes
and facing to the Eastern sea
we watch the rising light
of the new day
