A Gleam of Stars

by Thomas Pender   May 30, 2011

Dark and shadowed
hang wisps of dust in the gloom
creations pillars spiralling on
An unseen filigree
left from creations chorus
A vast and growing sea
of immeasurable grains
Slowly....
Uncounted Eons passing
in a great sweeping arc of time
The vast spaces gathering onto themselves
maelstroms in the dark
Whirling to the dance of gravity
The fingerprints of creation
caught on a breeze from cosmic deeps
sparks the cold shadows of eternity's dust
to the bright incandescent glow
And then....
A sudden cascading gleam
spearing through the darkness
flowering to a blinding white....
and a Sun shines
The first light in the darks
precurser to a billion billion lights
in the tapestry of cosmic reaches
Whirling on and on
in this Universal movement
Symphonies of fire and ice
spin in wheels of galactic fury
These great spirals glowing
Displaying creations wonders
to our eyes
And here....
as my eyes gaze on this night sky
I wonder
If somewhere out there
in all this great magnificence
do other eyes stare as I
and wonder as I
and ask that same question as I
ARE WE ALONE
