Waking Up

by Chasing Butterflies   Jun 8, 2011

Our golden palace of wonders
Towered around us.
Our fingers and hearts
Intertwined together;
We belonged.

Troubles were nonexistent
In our safe haven.
All around us the
Sun shined brightly,
Illuminating promise.

We were naive.
Nothing ever stays the same.
We learned this
The hard way...
All was no longer well.

Our glorious sanctum
That we treasured
Ever-so-much
Was falling around us;
and there was not a thing I could do.

We stared wide-eyed
At the burning walls
Of our happiness.
Ashes, ashes...
They all fell down.

Through the smoke
Of our destroyed past,
I saw your retreating silhouette.
I reached out to you with my hand
And cried out...

But you were gone...
