Cemetery of Unknowns

by Poseur   Jun 30, 2011

The red glow of fading sunlight falls slowly on the stones.
In the chill, I pull my jacket tighter around me,
and wander through the graves. As the wind picks up,
I hear the clang of the flagline banging against the pole...
Banging against itself. Connected yet, driven apart.
Like the war, I think. As i near the gate, I reach out to
grasp the lock, gazing through the imprisoning iron bars.
I know I'll never find the answers. Especially not here,
where the dead live. The silent whisper of souls reaches out to me, remaining soldiers that haven't passed on yet.
In this Cemetery of Unknowns, I am as lost as they are.

-Dedicated to every unknown soldier that lost their life in the Civil War
