Walking the Line

by RynZelara   Jul 9, 2011

Like a tight-rope performer
I walk this line
Aiming to impress their eyes
To steal their attention
To envelop them in surreal anticipation
Yet not mocking their suspense

This performance is volatile
Like their mood, shifting and ever-changing
Sway to much one way
Failure
Sway too much the other way
Failure
Achieve the goal too hastily
Failure
Linger in uncertainty
Failure
Situation balanced on a hairpin
Falling over with seemingly just a wrong glance
Success in the eyes of another's vision
But whom should see my success?

Those I aim to impress, or the Ringmaster?

Straying from the guidelines
I MAY grab their attention
Ringmaster's guidelines cleaved to
I WILL grab their attention
For the Ringmaster
Resides as the final authority
They will follow his influence

Not mine
