Mama, goodbye

by pam   Jul 12, 2011

Through glazed eyes
gaussian blur 4.5
a woman who lived unwise
is letting go of life
save for its etchings
in deep facial lines
your story unkind
erased from your mind
is there something
you want to say?
do you want to stay
or go away
is there something
I want to tell?
do I even know you
all that well
threaded intricately
in the mother-daughter fabric
laced over every heartbeat
in a tapestry tight
yet I cannot tell you I love you anymore
nor remember I ever did
but perhaps we cannot grasp love with our hands
perhaps there isn't even love in the end
hold life tight
but take life light
take life and death
as we take day and night
the girl you used to be
the girl will live in me
recite past childlike ditties
we used to sing on the balcony
we may never know life
just look for the signs
from truths from lies
from memories left behind
mama, goodbye
