The Best Friend

by Aurora Dubnyk   Jul 15, 2011

The world was built for pairs, but we
Are creatures that self-destruct
All timers in a horrible game
But my lip trembles, forcing my silence
I want to ask of this emerald-eyed creature,
What do you want from me!
The taken-in, turns vulpine
Turns its maw to me, its dagger grin
Speaks snakes, it makes my heart palpitate with fear
The serpents threaten the dearest, and precious;
But my mind! Illusions! I scream inwards
I cannot speak of my pain, to accept the truth
Would to be to dwell in what I loath,
Let dark, black tendrils coil and poison
All I am with one climatic thought
What do jealous creatures do?
