Loss of a Love

by Chloe Johnson   Aug 1, 2011

All it takes is one person
To manipulate the depths of your mind.
Who makes your heart quiver.
And leave the past behind.
We don't know why we care
Sometimes it's a question
We're kind to the ones who don't
Who leave us in infestation.
When I see your beautiful face
I don't care who is there
I couldn't hide my smile, even if I tried
Our hands fit perfectly as a pair.
I've been told of your terrible past.
But I have never heard a complaint spoken from your lips.
You're a strong one, aren't you...
Always breathing in after each one of life's kicks.
On some level, I understand.
Everyone else does, too
But I doubt any of us truly know
What lies beneath you.
I can see the monster
The one who lives quietly underneath
The illusion of your blue eyes
The one you're fighting to keep.
You can't let go of it
You feel it growing in your soul
But you disguise it with your addictive laugh
And when you stop moving the truth is told
This crush I have on you is alive
Growing larger everyday
But I can't allow myself to sit back
And witness your decay.
I am a friend to you first
I refuse to back down
Against the will of your nature
The fire on this ground
If I lose you tonight.
I don't think this town will be the same.
These streets everyone sees you walk down
Will suddenly seem tame.
I could never be angry.
Because this is what I get.
For caring so much about you
My wife...the Methamphetamine addict.
