Memory of Death

by sm   Aug 24, 2011

Desire stirs on the horizon
Rising like a black sun
No sweet song dances on the air
Nothing so calm or so gentle
Today the birds remain silent
For this day begins in shadow

Figures in the dark
Cast their greed upon the world
A veil to keep the light
From the heart of man
No still waters to show his reflection
To see clearly the face of the enemy

Men look to the heavens
For but one ray of light
Clouds gather with the memory of death
And it rains blood in the darkness

Lost limbs and cold faces
Anger spent and burned in flesh
Pain and anguish hang heavy on the air
Suffocating those who live to breathe
Decaying voices whisper to the world
A plague to scar her evermore.
