A Silly Thought

by Devin Michalski   Nov 10, 2011

Is it so hard to believe that humans have humanity

A common sense of decency

Prayers, not profanity,

A light amidst calamity?

When love is lost to hate and greed

And altruistic tendencies

Are lost to basest gluttony

Is it so hard to believe

That in this grim society

A good man still sows seeds?

Cynical dogmas, practical and rational

Disappointed idealists are often most the sane;

Expect the worst in everyone,

Make do with the status quo

Never seek to overthrow

And trifle in this do-si-do

Of horrid hoggish savages

But is there still a light

To be seen beyond the heavy mist

That's looming, dark and ominous

Over our bleak populace?

Perhaps, but not a mother's kiss

Could save us from the best of this

We need a far more simple fix

In theory, not in practise

Love, it seems is best for this;

Funny concept, isn't it?
