The Uniform

by Marine Wife 80   Dec 21, 2011

I stand steady as I hear a fellow solider being shot,
I draw my gun and get the trigger ready to be pulled,
I am proud to wear this uniform right now,
do not ask me how I do this day in and day out,
Because after all the shooting is finally done,
We lay down our guns,
But, that fellow solider I heard being shot?
It wasn't just anyone,
It was the one I loved,
The One I thought could never die.
I take the uniform and place it in the back of my closet,
were I have hid his memories and so much of my past.

Very moving, deep and heartbreaking, to have your loved one die in front of you, shot by enemy fire. I have the deepest respects for you, your friend and all the soldiers in uniform who defend this great country every day.
