Was That You?

by Anna Stephens   Jan 20, 2012

Heavy hangs the scent of warm, sweet jasmine
Sun falls slowly into the fire of evening
All around is the silence of an ending day

Were those your lips that brushed my cheek?

Ghost of the moon floats through a cloud-laden sky
Wind spirits pay homage to ancient willows
Far away thunder growls through the darkness

Was that you whispering "I love you"?

Pink light of dawn appears in sudden splendor
Birds begin their songs of daily celebration
The world awakes in a golden glow

I find my heart remains broken
