Just Because

by Anna Stephens   Feb 16, 2012

Not to contact you again was your request.
One that I have honored these many years.
Why bare my soul at this late date
For all to see and judge?
Hope I, by some strange quirk of fate
Your eyes might land upon this very page
And your heart find need for love's response.

You asked me not to hate you for what you had to do.
How could you believe I ever would?
Unconditional love is what it is--
Love, no matter what.
No ifs, no maybes or someday, especially no strings.
Because we were never destined to be "us"
Lessens it not on this earthly plane or beyond.

Please know that you are in my heart, my soul,
My thoughts each day and night.
And I still wish for you, my love,
All the happiness one life can hold.
My memories of you are soft and sweet,
A joyous thread in the fabric of my life.
I treasure each one, a precious gem.

Just because my ocean of tears
Is but a rivlet now
Think not that I don't love you still.
And even though our lives go on
Yours there, mine so far away.
Our souls still touch somewhere out there
Just because they must.

Not many poems can choke me up or cause a tear to flow. This really affected me, misunderstandings and lack of trust from people cause so much heartache. Breaking ties instead of talking things out cause us to lose out on so many people that fill our lives.
Excellent write Ann, loved it and the personal touch of each of your works
