From the long sad party

by broken sword   Feb 24, 2012

Someone was saying
something about shadows covering the field, about
how things pass, how one sleeps towards morning
and the morning goes.
Someone was saying
how the wind dies down but comes back,
how shells are the coffins of wind
but the weather continues.
It was a long night
and someone said something about the moon shedding its
white
on the cold field, that there was nothing ahead
but more of the same.
Someone mentioned
a city she had been in before the war, a room with two
candles
against a wall, someone dancing, someone watching.
We begin to believe
the night would not end.
Someone was saying the music was over and no one had
noticed.
Then someone said somethingabout the planets, about the
stars,
how small they were, how far away.

I'm going to admit straight out that am not 100% sure if my interpretation will be anywhere near correct but...just my thoughts. I'm thinking (based on the title) that this is about someone going from one group of people to another only hearing bits and pieces of many conversations. It was actually the conversations I found to be interesting. You had some great imagery and wording in each one and I wonder if there are all related in some way and I'm missing it. I'd love for you to explain this poem to me....very interesting write.

and...if my interpretation is correct and..it was snippets of conversations you are referring to then, I think this is quite an original concept....well done from me!
