Still Just Friends

This was the day she decided she'd tell him,
the day restraint would go.
"hey, can i tell you something?
i just want you to know..."
He turns and smiles, so overjoyed,
then looks down at her to say:
"oh hey, i'm glad you stopped me,
i'm having the best day.
i finally caught up with jessica,
and told her how i feel!
she says she's felt the same way,
i think we've finally got something real!"
"that's great!" she says, smiling big
as her chest grows tight, and tears begin.
she hugs him tight and walks away,
taking a paper and pen.
she quickly writes a little note,
slipping it in his book.
by that night he hears the news:
she's gone away, nowhere that anyone looks,
and he remembers a folded note.
he reads it through, more times than once
and cries over the lines she wrote:

"hey,
i wanted to tell you i loved you,
but you're so happy now!
i hope you stay this way forever,
smiling so proud,
so this is my goodbye to you,
my greatest friend ^_^
p.s, maybe we'll meet again."
