The Butterfly

by Joshua Patrick   Mar 28, 2012

I was walking through the woods one day
Like a child, I was looking to play
Then I stumbled upon the most familiar thing
When, like a siren, it began to sing
It was a butterfly, all caged up
She was singing for someone to let her loose

I ran to the cage and found the key.
Then I unlocked it and set her free
I let the creature go and she sang a sweet song
and she followed me home like a lost hound

I kept her in my room each and every day
Then when I decided, we both went out to play
we went into the woods where we first met
It made the perfect scene, such a perfect set

Then she started weeping, thinking of her horrible days
who could keep such a beautiful thing like her at bay?
But she's free now, and so very happy
she'll never be locked up again so long as we are together

I set her free
now she's as happy as could be
she free to flutter her wings and be full of glee
she can now roam the earth an be who she is
no restrictions, no holding back

Everything was really good until I got to this part

"she can now roam the earth an be who she is
no restrictions, no holding back "

No holding back sounded a bit force to me, I'm not sure if it's the way I read the poem. But aside from that It was a lovely read and also I like that you were able to set the butterfly free to be what she truly is.
