Where did I go wrong?

by Victoria   Apr 24, 2012

Never thought on my knees, I'd be,
asking God to please help me.
Lost it all, or so it seems.
Broken hearted, with un-finished dreams.
Lord, where do I go from here,
take the wheel, I need you to steer.

Take me back to my innocence,
where I once had a reliable conscience.
Go back to a heart with all the parts intact.
These last few years-- go ahead and subtract.
I suppose no one really knows where they reach,
or what exactly happens along the roads of each.

I wish it was easy to get back on the right route.
I wish I didn't have any negative doubts.
Just help me turn around and find another way.
Tell me it's not to late, speak all hope there is to say.
I'm not sure which way I should go,
how I even got like this, I really don't know.
Its left me wondering when I first crossed wrong,
Perhaps when I was vulnerable-and my soul was not strong...
Just maybe the bad overcame my broken heart...
Or left my mind to make decisions that wasn't very smart.

I've led myself so far down, a wicked course,
I know I am lost, and my will has hopeless, force.
This dark way I've walked, seems almost, lifelong,
It's terrifying when you don't know where you belong.

Seized without warning, to a cold place all alone,
Placed where the truth wasn't known.
The stop I made, I thought- would be quick, is now my biggest mistake.
Never would of believed then, it's the road I continue to retake.
This is the track I've managed to continue walking down...
It's the darkest road, you can either swim or drown.
Saying 'no' to certain drugs is my weakest ability.
Uppers, are like my own personal utility.

I'm stuck, when- my knees collapsed today,
I really want to believe that, I am going to be okay.
My road came to a split, I am not sure what to do,
So I'm calling out, God-this would be your cue.

Waiting for an answer, I listened real close,
My answers, were clearly painted on yesterdays ghosts...
Screaming for me- 'to hold on, don't give up just yet,
I know the rain has made you at set,
The sun will be your light,
Even when it's dark, you'll have sight.
Temptations, are the hardest to over-come.
I won't be able to promise that you won't encounter some.
If you need me, know I'm always by your side.
I am your own personal guide.
Don't let your weaknesses be your demise,
you've fostered flaws, that you despise,
Which can be disposed of, if you really try,
I'll help you, all you need is faith, to say, bye.

Who you are is not where you have been,
or what obstacles that have made you sin.
Today is never too late to start over new.
Tomorrow is, what you choose to view.'

I sat on my knees in silence, as the ghosts faded away,
I knew at that moment, everything would soon over-come dismay.

Coming to my feet, I stood tall,
I knew exactly- who to ask for the next time I fall.

    Hi Tori.

First off I love that you used rhyme here, and the first two lines told me where you were going with this piece:

Never thought on my knees, I'd be,
asking God to please help me.

^^^ its easy to pray but when a person is on their knees, it paints another picture, one of desperation because we know no one human can help us....

The message inside is one of hope and I am just reminded that "with God all things are possible".

I think you need 4 line stanzas, to start. When you use rhyme-especially for long poems, you need to keep the lines and syllables as tight as you can to help the poem flow along.
See the really long lines you have ^^^up there, those need shortened.

Easy fix really. Just count your syllables! Enjoyed!!!
