A Medics Pain

by Archangel   May 30, 2012

I get to your house
Greeted by a painful scream
Please help my child
Oh God please let this be a dream!

Still before me lies a little body
Still racing I crouch at his motionless blonde head
Soaking wet he has drowned I assume
The grey, the blue he really looks dead!

Check for heartbeat, is the airway clear
Start compressions, give him some air
Drips, drugs and tubes, all go in
Please God my cry you must hear!

For what seems like hours I try and try
Every now and then sending up a cry
I peer at the monitor but still no change
Dear God help me I'm losing him why?

More compressions, ventilations
But still there's no change
I load and go with sirens and lights
Riding with the reaper is no longer strange

Arrive at hospital we racing inside
Racing to resus no time to wait
The Doctors, the Nurses its all hands
Finally a doctor shakes his head saying sorry too late!

I walk for the door, you look in my face
Oh my God his gone is all you say
Tear run down my cheeks
I just want to run away.

Working in God waiting room
It's a terrible place
But I'll be there working
At my fastest pace!

Next time you see a medic
With eyes full of tears
Just remember they human
They also have fears!
