Best friend turned lover
What could go wrong?
You held my hands in my dreams
You held my heart in your song
My love was pure, young
But our heads were dark.
I let you in my darkness,
But yours held another
Oh, my distracted lover
I loved you so
We shone in the light together
But shadows were creeping in

What is love? What is friendship?
Which bound our sleeping limbs
Tangled and warm?
Our hearts were open, to trust, to truth
And so the shadows crept in

So may bullets flew, at the end
Which one landed in our chest?

I bleed across the line
Between love and hate
Where this shadow fell.
Bloodstains on our love,
I see them in your face
I hate you
Because I loved you so,
My distracted lover

Now my hands are empty
And I cannot sleep
The good times are memories
Cast in shadow by the other
By our futures stretching ahead,
Oh, my distracted lover
Our definitions differ, and
We cannot reconcile our hearts,
Torn as mine is, barely there
Impure and bloody as your touch

A classic tale,
We ruined it with love
With fighting in the shadows
We are two broken people,
But whilst you pick up the pieces
I smoulder on.
