Beauty pageant

by Katherine   Aug 21, 2012

This is a spoken word poem. For those of you who don't know what a spoken word poem is, it's a poem that doesn't really rhyme or have a flow. It's kind of like telling a story. This is the first one I wrote but all the people I told it to liked it so I decided to post it. Here goes.

Life is like a beauty pageant. Everyone wants to be better than you, and you want to be better than everyone else. We strive to be the best, the smartest, and the prettiest, but we never win. We never drop out or stop trying, even though we probably should, and we never stop changing ourselves and who we are. Every girl wants to be the best, so we change to impress our parents, our friends, and that one special guy. We can never be good enough, and we never get any better. Not truly. The only thing that improves is our mask, and our fake selves. We hide our feelings, emotions, and pain, and replace them with fake smiles, invisible tears, and silent crying. No matter who we are or what we do, someone isn't happy. So we never stop changing, we never stop trying, and we never stop failing. And in case you couldn't tell, we, is me.
