A Game We Lost

by Selfrejected   Sep 30, 2012

I walk as the leaves
Flutter down onto the street
I don't love this place
Like I did last week
This pavement used to lead
To bliss and retreat
But with the passage of time
It now leads to the end of the line

Oh, how fickle and fragile
Our game has became
Dancing around truths
We both thought insane
These expectations
They have dug our grave

All I can say is
"I'll grieve for the moments
Soon to be forgotten
And a love long exhausted
There is nothing left here to ignite
No, not even the ashes"

We'll say our goodbyes
And I'll lay down tonight
With a void in my chest
And a few, a few heartbeats less
