Abscond

~Club Challenge, "Grab the Classic Rock," taking a classic rock song from the 60's, 70's or 80's era, and writing a metaphoric poem from the song~

I chose:
Already Gone
By-The Eagles

Abscond

I look up at you across the table, a person I no longer know.

I stare blankly, looking on the features that once stirred the fires of my passion, the flames long ago fading into the gray ash of forgotten embers.

I absently stir my coffee as I watch your mouth move silently, engaging in a conversation that I should be a part of but choose not to be.

Words that matter so little in the end.

The syllables cage you up in their own meanings.

Do you ever mean what you say?

My eyelids grow heavy though not from fatigue.

A silent sigh escapes my lips.

I slide my coffee away from me, place my palms downward on the table and push myself upright.

I turn my back and make my way to the door.

My stone-like soul drags itself across the threshold and
I silently close the door, leaving the room behind me empty.
