Silent Voices Unheard

by Daizia   Nov 3, 2012

The voices that screamed their protests
so loud yet so silent
between breaths they told the stories
of the hatred of the past
it's as if you pushed their voices away
unknowingly to you they wept their silent tears
trying to be heard above the laughter
the clinks of glasses
as you ignore their protests
thinking that your problems will just go away
with the drinks that you pour down
but you slip up
and you hear the silent tears
they're not silent anymore
are they
the silent tears pouring down
and you
weep
yet still the VOICES screaming their protests
are mute to you

the silent voices unheard

This poem is sad and heartbreaking. I really like the way you expressed your feelings here because sometimes we are among many people yet they don't acknowledge our pains. Great write.

Ok, I really like this poem and its message as I am a big believer in voices being heard and feel frustration at those who choose to ignore them!

I would suggest that you edit this poem and put punctuation in it. Your poem is very strong and has a big impact for those who cannot speak, it deserves to be read the way it would leave this impact. Without the commas and fullstops, the reader is not entirely sure where to stop or pause and so has to spend time breaking this poem up which makes the poem's flow broken.

I would also suggest that your very last line here "the silent voices unheard " is singled out on its own for the last line, to leave this huge powerful image, it sums up your poem. I like how you chose to make VOICES capitalized as it is much more powerful this way, it really shows how loud they try to shout and are still ingored.

Really enjoyed this and great choice of title.

Silence holds all knowledge, captive. Problem shared, is half-solved, for sure.
