The Only Way I Can Sleep

by Craig Rose   Nov 17, 2012

This sullen feeling,
That lurks beneath my breast,
Has caused me quite a bout of unrest,
And my heart is beating arrhythmically within my chest.
Do not fret just yet,
Dear love,
For though it seems as though this is a serious matter,
It is actually, very much so, the latter.

When I watch you walk away,
When I tell you goodnight,
From anywhere but by your side,
It is then that this feeling comes foremost in my poor heart.

However, I have discovered a simple solution,
For myself, I have created an illusion,
By dressing my pillows in your clothes,
And laying them beside me, gently,
As though it were truly you.

And now at night,
Your scent lingers in the fabric,
And with a little imagination and a touch of magic,
I close my eyes,
And it is as though we lay side by side!

However soothing this may be,
There is only one cure to my disease,
And that would be,
For you,
To marry me.
