Pointless ending

by Ole Carsten   Dec 11, 2012

Shh, listen to your footsteps,
Only an almost non hearable sound,
The snow is preventing the tapping,
Now only a small creaking is there,
In the distance I hear voices.

Children playing cheerful in the snow,
Church bells is calling in and the flag on half,
Oh I am glad for the children,
Breaking the uneasy feeling,
here in the cold church.

We are almost all dressed the same way,
Difference in black hardly visible,
But it is there like the faces has different shapes,
One with a tear dripping silently,
One reaches a tissue to remove the tears.

Psalms are sung and echoing in the room,
Some have chosen well to salute a farewell,
Too young to lay there in the coffin,
Resting now in peace after the crash,
I send you off before Christmas.

May you find rest in heaven above us,
Please send comfort and rejoice to all,
Be among other angels there,
Lets believe that from now,
Silently all is walking away with bended heads.

Beside the graveyard the voice sounds again,
Somewhere children play in the snow,
The sound is different now it echoes in me,
I am wondering all the way to the car,
Oh lord protect all from pointless endings.

This is a heartbreaking piece, Ole. :(

First stanza: You started off very nicely. I like the Shh... it means you should listen carefully to what is going on and what is to come.

Second: Nice imagery. The children laughing, the flag on half-staff... you are grateful for the children to be able to laugh, mostly because they don't fully understand what is happening.

Third: Nice description here of the people in the church. All in black...the only difference between them are their faces.

Fourth; Psalms are sung as they often are at funerals... but with the salutes I assume that maybe the deceased died during service, or was in the service at some point? But then you say crash? So, I'm uncertain...either way the person was given honor by being saluted. They were too young to die. Very sad to see one pass before a holiday, especially Christmas... it's very hard for the families.

Fifth: That sounds like a prayer, maybe a prayer at the funeral or maybe even a silent prayer someone had said. Everyone is now leaving the funeral with their head hung low... such a heartbreaking image.

Sixth: Children begin to play in the snow once more... life moves on... and you send a prayer to Him to please protect everyone from pointless endings.

This is different than what you usually pen Ole, and I wonder if this is something you personally had to go through... I'm very sorry for your loss if you did.

This piece is different to what I am used to reading from you but it's good. I like the beginning the most.
