Normal Defined

by Samuel Ernst   Jan 3, 2013

I have come to know that I am not like other people. I am considered "weird" and I don't fit in with "normal" people.
I want to break down that word. A state of mind in which you act in a series of patterns and predictable reactions based on a core set of values and principles. We all fall into this definition. Weird would be to do something that is not expected based on your routine and what is normal for you. Normal in the individual since of the word is incredibly simple and non-threatening.

Now there is the other normal, the social Normal. To act and behave in a way that is considered acceptable to the culture in which you belong directly. Technically, this frame of existence is not real. Humans tend to ignore the small things that do not fit into the normal category, and thus we have defined what is considered normal human behavior based on over generalized concepts of shared core principles and guiding values. The biggest lie in the world is that a normal person exist. It is impossible for a person to be just normal. There is always something "weird" about everyone. Not by the judgement of themselves, for it is the individuals normal behavior. It is the culture that judges a particular behavior to be against what is accepted as normal. We cannot overlook certain things. Somethings are considered minor quirks while others are down right off. If it is normal for someone to feel happy about the death of someone else, that would be considered weird, regardless of where the feeling spawns from. Perhaps his faith says that death is something to celebrate, or perhaps the particular death is of someone who has made that persons life difficult in one way or another. That person will be considered weird regardless of the reasons behind the feeling, because the general population accepts death as a depressing situation, and that person might be socially crucified for that behavior because its "just not right to be happy about someone dying,"
