Ha Sat There Waiting (A War Poem)

by Paskie Malenfant   Jan 9, 2013

He sat there waiting,
for it to end.
The cries of his comrades,
no mercy to them.
He sat there waiting,
to see which gates would be his.
His lover,
a distance to him was a world away.
He sat there waiting,
the smell of gunpowder overpowering him.
Not knowing that his sacrifice,
would be as significant as he thought.
He lay there waiting,
history taking place around him.
For now and forever,
that would be his only preoccupation.
