Insane Room

by Jason Rainey   Mar 18, 2013

Insane Room

The walls laugh at you
They hold contempt for the things they hear
The lightbulb is harmless
Tidal drapery chasing the daylight
Their always watching
Peering through framed glass
Images from the past daunt the future
You run, corner to corner
Hide!
Flocks of birds attempt warfare
Help!
Mocking doors breathe in time
The insane room

This was my first group challenge win. I shared the honors with a fellow member. Gratz!

I actually voted for this. Not many people would think to describe a mental illness in a poem contest about sickness, so I appreciated that fact.

Critique: "Their always watching" should be "They're always watching." Gotta watch those there, their, and they're words. It's pretty difficult! :)

    "Their always watching
    Peering through framed glass
Images from the past daunt the future
    You run, corner to corner
    Hide!"

^This is an amazing part in this poem. Not only does it describe schizophrenia or psychosis, it describes, for me - depression and anxiety.

This is a multi-dimensional piece. Congratulations on the win. Very well deserved!
