Memories of a Forgotten Father

by C P West   Mar 21, 2013

Six months you had taken in fresh air
When I gazed upon eyes that stare
Memories of when you were a child
Laughing and wondering in curiosity
Remembrances of a judge
If I recall correctly with a slight pudge
My words to him of you were true
The words uttered that I love you
Memories of when you were a child
Laughing and wondering in curiosity
Through years, some that were memorable as fairy tales
Yet others that would be considered not too well
The things that reminisce in a father's mind
Things that happened long ago but were not left behind
Memories of when you were a child
Laughing and wondering in curiosity
Oh but those times have come to rest
A different chapter has come to test
A young man as is claimed
Who in one's mind knows who to "blame."
Memories of when you were a young man
Accusing and blinded by anger
Grades were an expectation this is true
And rewarding failure I cannot do
If that was enough to write off the love of a father
How long until the pushing away becomes "why bother"
Memories of when you were a young man
Accusing and blinded by anger
I know that child inside you still lives
All I can hope is for one day
A day that in a heart forgives
When no fault was a play
And hoping, just hoping for...
Memories of when you were a man
Laughing and driven by curiosity
