Understanding

by McKenzie Pratt   Apr 24, 2013

Coming home from another day of the same life;
The same pain that works its way into your sanity.
And you wonder:
Why am I here?
As you glance up at the cold, unforgivable sky
Rain lightly drums against the soft pallets of grass
Reminding you of your own sorrow.
You only feel 'at home' at times like this.
And the thunder claps beckoningly
Calling forth the next round of lightning.
These days are your favorite
For you do not feel isolated from the 'happy souls'
Today, you do not stand alone
You feel as if these storms describe your every detail
Like you fit in
And can no longer be buried
Behind the silent screams of the forgotten
The pale, everlasting sky lifts up memories
But does not drown them, no.
They simply understand
The wind blowing in comfort
And for the moment
The pain lessens itself from your shoulders.
You walk into the doors of your solitary home
As you hear the voice of a shattered soul call
'How was today'
And despite the punishment and torture
Your pitiful soul has had to endure
You simply say
'It was normal. It was good.'
Because you had the faint patterns of the rain
To remind you
That you would be alright.
That you would make it through.

Beautiful, I like the way you made the person familiarize themself with the storm. Also, I liked the spark of hope and determination to get through the day at the end. Nicely penned.
