To Ask

by Joe Moore   Jul 2, 2004

I keep asking God
to please save my house
Is this what prayer
is truly all about?

I keep asking God
to save my battered marriage
Even on our honeymoon
while riding in the carriage

Is this a perfect time
to ask to cure a disease?
Or just keep asking
for us to live in peace?

I keep asking god
to keep my children safe
Even when they stand
and cuss me to my face

Should I call on him
to save their sarcastic tail
Or just send 20 dollars
for an adopt a child in the mail

I know the things I ask for
are primarily for myself
But the things I want the most
belong to someone else

I keep asking God
for the material things
maybe I should be more careful
of what I’m asking

I keep asking God
I keep asking God
But the one thing I didn't see
How do I answer his prayers?
When he ask his favors of me.
