A Ride To Remember

by You Can Speak But I Can Rhyme   May 19, 2013

There was a time, I rode a horse,
A mighty steed it was,
It galloped on, on feathery hooves,
A flighty steed it was!

It's earthen shade was earthy made,
By the muddy mane it had,
It's saddled back and eyes such black,
Of fear, no fear it had.

It galloped over vales and hills,
Unmired by the mires,
No heed it paid, not once afraid,
Of biting cold or fires.

Upon its back, the world I saw,
From dwarven caves to shires,
Saw forest elves in forests delve,
Saw castles, forts and spires.

With it I rode to meet the doom,
Every demon I destroyed,
It trampled through the orcs and gnomes,
Unbridled and overjoyed.

Its warrior's grace, unearthly pace,
Would make the wenches swoon,
They flocked to me to talk to me,
And I promised each the moon.

And I grew up from a dashing prince,
The king of all I behold,
And ruled the lands with an iron hand,
But it ain't the truth, be told.

My mighty steed with the flighty speed,
Spent all its time indoors,
Its gallop was but a gentle rock,
Just a wooden rocking horse!

And in those tales of epic scales,
A child had learnt to dream,
With open eyes within his mind.
We three made quite a team.

The third was a firm and guiding voice,
That onward led me to my glories,
Right by my side, as I learnt to ride,
Was my Dad with his trove of stories.

He was Merlin to my King Richard,
Master Yoda to my Luke,
If I can rhyme with so much ease,
This victory's not a fluke.

Now I rock my son, on this wooden horse,
As once my Dad had done.
This mighty prince on his flighty steed,
His journey has just begun!
