The Stalker

by Stephanie   Jun 2, 2013

He watched her smile from across the room
he closed his eyes and took a deep breath
almost as if he could smell her perfume

She glanced his way and her smile faltered
she'd seen him before, but she doubted it was true
his appearance had altered

He changed his look from the last time he stalked her
so she wouldn't be quick to find
that the man she'd locked away was out for sure

As she squinted to see
she noticed one thing
the man from her past was now set free

He reveled in the fact that she was scared
as he looked in her eyes
he mentally prepared

She caught his eye and felt a chill
she couldn't believe
that this was real

He remembered her well
as if no time had passed
while he had sat in his cell

She stumbled to a stand
as she started to take off
she began to understand

He started to smile
as he watched her tremble
thinking all the while

She began to run
with only one thought
he has not won

He laughed at her fear
as he started to stand
to slowly draw near
She saw him rise
and with a new jolt of fright
she looked to the skies

He picked up his pace
as he saw her run
his heart started to race

The Gods held no answer
so she ran silently
like a ballet dancer

He knew her route
so he followed her home
without a doubt

When she got to her house
she slipped through the door
quite as a mouse

He found her room
and slid open the lock
only to find doom

She stood in the doorway
with a loaded gun
as she told her stalker to back away

He looked in shock
as he saw what she held
and she started to talk

She told him to leave
if he wanted to live
she wasn't naive

He looked at her face
and took a step closer
closing the space

She looked him in the eye
as she pulled the trigger
as if to say bye
His eyes opened wide
with the sudden pain
and he started to cry

She fell to her knees
in a sigh of relief
she was finally free

He lay on the floor
in a puddle of blood
he could stalk her no more
