When I Was A Boy

by Sigoney Holder   Jun 6, 2013

I used to ride around these streets everyday
Mum would actually have to gather a search party as I tended to run away
Me and my friends loved this seriously we actually used to boast
Even came up with a name for it "whose mum would miss us the most"
Katie used to sneak out to be with her boyfriend Brad
And she would of got away with it if I didn't catch her and run and tell dad
But she soon got her revenge which made her happy
Because as soon as I turned eighteen she started doing it to me
I went out with Jane the local butcher's girl
You may think it was just a phase but she's my soul, my wife my world
Yeah that's right we are childhood sweethearts with kids of our own
But while she's back there I've had to come back home
This is strange even though the place is exactly the same
The gate is still broken and above the door still lies our family name
I would have thought after mum went dad would have changed it
But I guess he thought that would have been her bit
When she went he just seemed to lose sight of everything
Katie and I tried to look after him but it just wasn't the same with mum being there constantly smiling
It's sad as he's gone now too but at least they're together wherever they may be
I just wish that they were still here to look out for Kate and me
Enough of past memories I've got a house to put on the market
Katie is helping whenever she decides to come back from Tibet
It's funny isn't it how you could be a full grown man telling your kids to share each toy
But as soon as you walk back into your childhood home you're just a little boy.
