It's a Dark Night.

by KC Lewis   Jun 25, 2013

Eerie lights mist beneath the dark horizon,
setting the stage for what all is to unravel before dawn breaks.

Streetlights flicker.

Silence, raising the heartbeats of those who roam the streets
unaware of whose gaze is set upon them.

Phantom shadows follow against the walls,
searching to fulfill their blood lust.
They crave the brief contact of another,
before the knife plunges into an innocent life.

The lives of many broken minds,
occupy the benches across the city.
Their hope has been dismissed.
Just as the wind knocks down a hollowed out tree,
it knocks down their voided out souls.

Our minds are like this broken city.

Battered, knocked down and defiled.
We constantly destroy others in attempt to outdo one another
our hearts have become bitter,
lusting after what we think we deserve.
We are taken to levels where we have little control,
left lying to occupy the benches of despair.

This is what society has done to us.
