That Night

by Daylight Lucidity   Sep 3, 2013

Balloons fly into the night sky as the party
Comes to an end, people murmur goodbyes
And wave as they pull out of the driveway
But I watch from the oak tree in which I am perched.
I look down at you, your hair gleaming in the full moon's light,
And smile a smile that has never been known to my lips
But seeing you there, looking around and walking in a small circle,
Makes my normally frowning mouth upwardly twist.
My eyes traces the lines of your soft, delicately beautiful face
And linger over your angelically twinkling eyes
That brighten even this darkest of space;
And seeing that, my breath catches in my throat.
I swing from the branch and land gracefully on my feet
Before you, nervousness leaving me speechless;
I take your hands in mine, you smile sweetly at me, leaving me to blush
A deep scarlet illuminated by that precious moon.
You close your eyes as I lean in,
Drawing a ragged breath before placing my
Quivering lips on your own, whispering that I missed you
As we pulled away.
We walked for miles that night, talking and laughing for hours
Until dawn made itself known,
The party may have been over for the others,
But our own was beautiful in its quiet closeness.
