Chasing an Illusion

by LadyLk   Sep 7, 2013

I'm running
In the street
Cold, dark,
Damp from the earlier showers.
Running to a spark I see

So suddenly, it disappears.

I hear a whisper
An echo of my name behind me
I turn
See nothing, Still hearing
I run toward the sound
Toward the familiar voice

So suddenly, it disappears.

I feel a touch
A touch on my arm
Warm, soothing.
I collapse

I awake to realize I am once again
Running
What am I chasing?
A dream? A fantasy? Time?
A person? A thought? An emotion?

I am in a constant chase
Of something impossible to capture
An illusion

But still,
I run.
