Mechanical Man

by Amanda   Sep 16, 2013

My man says he feels no emotions.
He says he has no thoughts.
Yet he sits here angry, miserable,
And constantly deep in thought.

"I'm fine," he says. "It's nothing."
But his face tells me something else.
"There's nothing on my mind, really."
No emotions, no thoughts, what's next?

So if he has no emotions,
And he has no thoughts.
Than I must have myself
A mechanical man,
At least, by my calculations.

Because if he doesn't feel,
And if he doesn't think,
The only logical explanation,
Is that he has no brain.

He must be made of steel and wire,
And perhaps some fancy lights.
He does look pretty realistic,
Technology has come so far.

Unfortunately for me,
And for you,
I do not like mechanical man.
I want a man who feels and thinks,
And tells me what's going on.

So if he doesn't feel any emotions,
And he doesn't have any thoughts,
He must be a mechanical man.
A mechanical man is not for me.

I think you explained yourself pretty well. I didn't find the flow rocky and towards the end, I was unsure of how to feel. Whether I should feel sad because the man has no feelings and no thoughts and as the result he is going to be left on his own... or whether to just accept it.

See I like how you manage to connect with me. I just liked the humorous line " Technology has come so far."
Pretty much, I like how you developed the plot of the poem to come up with a straightforward conclusion. 5/5
