Dreams and Painted Skies

by Forever Hers   Oct 21, 2013

I awoke with a feeling,
One strange and tight in my chest,
From a certain dream
That left me rather breathless.

It had a liquid background,
Ranging from a riverbed to a meadow of sorts,
From our quaint little home to the sea shore,
But they all only had a few sounds.

All I remember was her face so clear,
Her smile lighting up my entire world
While my heart pounded as I told her
That she was the most special girl.

I dreamt of her blush, one so sweet,
One that takes my breath away,
And of all the things I could say
But she left me without the capability of speech.

I remembered, as I laid in bed,
One scene that caused the constriction
In my chest; her eyes wide as I dropped quick
Down, without hesitation, on one knee.

I watched her breath catch in her throat,
My hand reaching into my pocket slowly
To pull out a soft, black velvet box and opened it;
I could feel my own eyes fill with poorly suppressed hope.

I rested the box in the palm of my hand,
The ring gleaming gently in the light,
And asked her in a voice as steady as I could manage,
If she would do me the honor of becoming my wife.

I whispered that I loved and wanted only her,
And that she was my dream come true;
Her eyes glanced down and looked in my hand as I told her "there's no one better for me than you"
And that she was my entire universe, my world.

I never heard her answer, I woke up right then,
But as I looked to my side and saw her beside me,
There was nothing but love and happiness in my chest
And it left me with a soft peace.

I leaned down to kiss her cheek lightly
As my fingers brushed her hair behind her ear
And allowed me to whisper that I'd love her forever
As she sighed and smiled beneath my fingers ever so slightly.

As I laid back down and pulled her to my chest,
I replayed it all over and over again in my mind,
I didn't know where it happened, I didn't know when,
But I adored that dream, when I asked her to be forever mine.

I laid there with her fast asleep in my arms,
Until the sun rose and painted the skies;
The rhythmic sound of her breathing and small sighs
Slowly lulled me into a state of serene comfort.
