Caress of Her Breath

by Forever Hers   Dec 18, 2013

The faint ticks of the clock echo in the quiet,
The darkness of the night no longer cold
As I lay in her arms, my ear to her chest,
Listening to the precious beat of her heart.

The wind knocks on the window,
Snow glistens in the faint moonlight,
My breath no longer forms a cloud in this room,
For her body lying beside mine gives me endless warmth.

I run my fingertips lightly up and down her arm,
Smiling softly in the blackened room,
As my neck is tickled sweetly and innocently
By the caress of her breath.

I gaze up at her adoringly as she sleeps,
My eyes roaming the face of my whole world
As my voice whispers words of love I keep
In my mind; each is laced thickly with pure emotion.

Exhaustion evades me as her arms wind tighter around me,
Subconsciously gripping me closer to her, I smile wide in return;
My hands rest on her chest as I close my eyes
And simply go back to listening to beat of her heart, the one fueling my world.

This poem is so beautiful. The imagery even to the smallest detail is unreal to me. I love how it seems that you are in your own world with this person. Even on thr coldest of nights when you are with this person nothing else matters. I can see you lying in a bed and just enjoying each other's company. The wording is fantastic overall as you show with the simplest of words nothing else matters but her. Sometimes nothing else matters in the end. Great write.
