Masks

by WritingtheStars   Oct 23, 2013

Everyone hides part of themselves
away behind a mask.
Sometimes a big secret,
but sometimes something less dramatic
like a secret obsession.
Some masks are beautifully
put together with elaborate decorations
covering it,
but not enough to be tacky.
Most people cannot tell
they are even wearing a mask,
it's so life-like.
They hide the truth,
and create their own reality
to shield their owners from
the judgment of others.
Some masks slip
and let everyone glimpse
at the truth.
Usually judgment is placed
on the poor soul who only
wanted to blend in.
Some people just can't build
the right kind of mask
without slipping.
And then there are people
who can see through masks.
Usually its only one mask
they can see through
and its belonging to someone
close to them.
Much to the distress of the mask owner,
that one person can see the truth.
That one person is nearly always
the one who loves you the most.
Everyone,
no matter who,
has something they hide,
maybe not from everyone
and maybe not anything big
but everyone has something
to hide behind their mask.
