Splintered and softened

by AnnanHeppinstall   Dec 17, 2013

There go the moments
that cannot be held on to
cannot be remembered later
inspirational glimpses
wasted on bits and pieces of time
humid matches held for dripping red noses in winter

gilded incandescent blooms
that rang clarity
only to make way for the next
if only i had been
a tourist instead of a nomad

the incoherence
gravel made slab for seconds that promised to last eternity
until they didn't
they were almost long enough to record
showing everything you'd have had to know
about that

rolling at the shoulders
lapping against a thickening tide
over and over
year after year
flaccid sensitivities
every last drop of immense discharge
last ounce of response
pint of efficacy
of awareness
pointless old bristles

i can't remember what was learned
brilliant things to be sure
for so little
there they went.
