Severed Wings

The wind carries all of regret with it,
closing in on us from every direction,
cutting into our skin, reaching our bones as sharpened frost,
entombing all dreams that we never lived through

The moon reflects our sorrow from within,
the bottom of the ocean is an abyssal watcher to carry us
onto the never-ending road of unjustifiable hope
with forks and crossroads behind every corner
adding onto the pile of our broken promises

And as the dark comes closer between every tree
of the forest that we buried our hatchets in,
we sing and laugh together as if there were no tomorrow
in the depths of the green sea where our darkness lives
hoping to avoid facing our grief

As if the singing and the laughter could bring peace;
carry us forward into the other side of the mirror,
the bizarro-world, where our love never ended,
where our wounds were never re-opened,
and our sadness never became everything;
to a place where we weren't imbued with regret

But no music could ever annihilate the silence in my mind,
no bridge unburned carry us onto eachothers arms again;
sadly, all memories and promises still kept were buried alongside the hatchets,
as every ghost of our past abides by the dark everything,
watching idly by as we hurt ourselves

For no laughter could ever cure the sickness in our minds,
the illness of our severed bonds acting like severed wings
making us crash into the mirror-ocean everytime
we tried to fly away from this place
