Back and Forth he listens

by Jake Youngblood   Sep 21, 2014

A contemplating angel
singing only to him

While a still deciding demon
plays an evil hymn

back and forth he listens
to the sweet seductive sounds

unsure which way to travel
feet still compelled to the ground

one promises happiness
the other swears no pain

back and forth he listens
while soaking in the rain

One sings of diamonds
the other plays of gold

still back and forth he listens
cause he was never told

the difference of good and evil
the polluted and divine

so back and forth he listens
one note at a time

he can last no longer
for the melodies have left

so back and forth he listens
but hears only his steps

the choice hes made forever
now living in regret

I love this. It shows how stressed people can be during their time of deciding. You have a conscience telling you whats wrong and right and it is not always easy to depict. The formatting is simple and flows nicely. Very good poem indeed (:
