My stranger

by alisha   Nov 20, 2014

So many nights I sat there staring
The darkness closing in
Wanting someone to find me
Wishing my life could begin

Tired of all the heart ache
Just wanting it all to end
Along came a stranger
My heart he would mend

So many nights I sat there crying
In the darkness all alone
Fighting away my demons
My heart slowly becoming stone

This stranger came with baggage
Just as shattered as she
yet he held no disguise
I appreciated the simplicity

No longer nights of loneliness
No nights of drying tears
Only kindness and conversation
Someone I could trust with all my fears

Bit by bit my world changed
It was you who brought me back
Helping me define myself
And everything I lacked

You taught me there is more to life
And how to stand on my own
I no longer dream of an end
no longer am I alone

So as I sit here in the darkness
Thinking of all that you've done
It saddens me to know
Your battle isn't won

I can not make everything better
Or give you the stars above
But you should know at least this
Honey you are loved

Not just because you saved me
Or because you melted this heart of stone
You're loved because of who you are
You don't have to be alone.

So when the darkness takes over
And it feels like there's only one way out
I will be here for you my friend
Though I know you're filled with doubt

I don't know where life will take us
Or how our story will end
I don't have much to give you
But my strength I gladly lend

For if it weren't for you my stranger
Me, I wouldn't be here
Your kindness and compassion
forever I'll hold dear

So next time that your breaking down
or simply need a friend
Remember you are not all alone
Your heart I'll help you mend.
