To a Loved One

by Sofia de Castro   Jan 12, 2015

You shall return through the veil of a dream,
As a blessed sight in my night's despair...
You will soothe my mind and soul that seem
To have no comfort left in this body lair.

Should I dare to gaze at your shining face,
or should I turn away my unworthy eyes?
Though still a dream, your warm embrace
Shall moist my heart, which slowly now dries...

My soul will touch your satin vests of gold
Will caress the hair which goddesses now own
and my darkest side will, at last, unfold...

And no more shall it ever feel alone...
For you're now dead, forever cold,
But in this memory, never gone...

I would say this is a sonnet as it has 14 lines, but im not exactly sure. What i am sure is that at least to me , this piece creates a melancholic atmosphere. It tells a tale of a loved one who now rests in peace, and what was left behind by them, just the memories. It has a realistic view. in the sense that the loved one may not be present in body but at least is present in the memories and in dreams. one can still feel them near. I enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing.
