Sticks and Stones

by Natalie   Oct 21, 2015

Sticks and stones may break my bones,
But words will never hurt me.
The most prestigious lie they've told us yet.

Yes, sticks and stones will hurt,
But the pain is only temporary.
Words however are different.
Every lie, rumor, slander, and blame
Is constructed
High as a skyscraper
That will grow too tall
and eventually
come crashing down.

The debris covered the city around it.
The unfaithful words
Suffocate everyone near the wreckage.

So, sticks and stones may break your bones
But,
Words will slowly kill you.

Hi Natalie and welcome to the site.
A great first piece here. I love how you've turned this old "comforting" saying on its head and - when thought about - what you say is so true. Physical pain is only temporary - mental pain is often more permanent and damaging.
All the very best and keep writing,
    Ben
